Meridian

A web app that pulled Michigan Medicine's entire faculty and staff lifecycle out of scattered inboxes and into one place. My first project there — and still the primary system they run that work on today.

Faculty & staff lifecycle web app

Impact

Still the primary tool in use today

Meridian home dashboard — a hub for faculty lifecycle management with entry points for Roster, Planning, Hiring, and Promotion.

Michigan Medicine ran the documentation for its faculty and staff lifecycle through informal, decentralized systems — forms emailed around, printed, and tracked in scattered places. Decentralization was the root problem, and it bred the rest: long processing times, work lost in transit, and no clear view of where anything stood.

For an organization moving high-stakes HR paperwork for expensive researchers and hospital staff, that was slow and costly. Meridian's job was to pull the whole lifecycle into one system — with dedicated workflows and a clear record of every document's status.

My senior led the workflow discovery, defining the processes directly with the people who used them. I helped reconstruct those workflows into a single web app and owned much of its information architecture and UI — the surfaces coordinators and staff live in day to day:

  • The roster — a scannable view of everyone in the system, with status at a glance.
  • Position planning — a workspace for mapping planned changes, new hires, and compensation before they happen.
  • Hiring & approval flows — candidate detail and position-approval steps, with the messaging and sign-offs attached.

I also named the app and pulled Michigan Medicine's brand colors more fully into the interface.

Centralizing the lifecycle replaced the email-and-print shuffle with dedicated workflows and a single record of every document — saving dozens of hours of administrative labor a week. Employees, from busy researchers to hospital staff, could log into a portal and track their own paperwork with HR, and HR could see every submission and its status in one place.

Years on, it remains the primary tool Michigan Medicine uses to manage faculty and staff lifecycle.
